Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is undergoing “significant” reshoots in Los Angeles, according to The Hollywood Reporter
The website goes on to say: “Insiders say that Cumberbatch and company are undertaking six weeks of shooting, if not more, working six days a week. Sam Raimi remains as helmer, and Loki head writer Michael Waldron is still on board writing the new material. It is unclear what actors in addition to Cumberbatch are involved.”
Sam Raimi, whose last horror directorial outing was on the Ash vs. Evil Dead series in 2015 (he has been producing movies such as Crawl since) took over the director’s chair for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from Scott Derrickson who cited creative differences.
Multiverse of Madness began production in the UK in November 2020 but had to stop in January 2021 due to the pandemic. Filming restarted and wrapped in the Spring.
Previously, Variety reported that Derrickson intimated that Benedict Cumberbatch will be taken to dark and damaging places, though he will be accompanied by Elizabeth Olsen (who looked resplendent at SDCC in a black leather dress), as she will reprise her role as Scarlet Witch.
Doctor Strange (2016), told the origin story of the superhero, and somewhat arrogant doctor, who is drawn to the world of mystic arts after an unfortunate accident. After searching the world over to find a way to heal himself, he eventually discovers himself under the tutelage of The Ancient One, who trains him in the mystic arts. Having become the Sorcerer Supreme, he must battle dark forces from our world and other realms.
