Black Site is a 2022 American action thriller film about a female CIA agent hunting a highly dangerous escapee and untrustworthy operatives.

Directed by Sophia Banks – making her feature directorial debut – from a screenplay co-written by John Collee and Jinder Ho. Produced by Todd Fellman, Mike Gabrawy, Basil Iwanyk and Craig McMahon.

The movie stars Michelle Monaghan, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Uli Latukefu, Lucy Barrett, Phoenix Raei, Todd Lasance, Pallavi Sharda and Logan Huffman.

Plot:
CIA agent Abby Trent (Michelle Monaghan) manages an underground black site facility that imprisons dangerous and high-risk detainees.

Days before Abby’s reassignment to a new post, Special Ops bring in a high-value target at the top of every Most Wanted list — codename: Hatchet (Jason Clarke). Hatchet is notorious for killing his enemies in a gruesome manner, and for Abby, his capture is personal.

Determined to avenge her husband’s death at the hands of Hatchet, Abby’s plan is soon thrown into chaos once Hatchet escapes and begins a bloody game of murdering the site officers — one by one.

While Abby and the team hunt him down, she quickly discovers that there are moles within the ranks compromising the mission. With time running out, Abby doubts everyone around her, begging the question who can she really trust?

Reviews:
” …Banks’ film has a few minor suitabilities beyond some bloody showdowns – there’s one sequence involving a stray glass shard from an oven that’s nicely wince-inducing – and a slew of laughable green screen efforts that, had Black Site awarely embraced, could have resulted in something pleasurable as opposed to the pablum effort it ultimately is.” CRP Writes

“Jason Clarke looks visibly bored going through the motions as The Hatchet, who must be the world’s most sullen and depressed terrorist ever. Similarly, Jai Courtenay spewing anti-authority attitude as Miller makes no sense in this context. Anyone in a sensitive post like this would get bounced real fast for challenging the chain of command.” J.B. Spins

” …involves much running around in the dark with guns and flashlights, while a string-heavy soundtrack sweats to conjure an excitement that remains stubbornly elusive. Cheap-looking and unpleasant — too many scenes boast a sickly green sheen as if viewed through a haze of nausea — Black Site is a pointless rehash of war-on-terror tropes.” The New York Times

” …bland portraits of masculinity and feminine toughness that have absolutely nothing to say, no subtext, no ideas or depth. “Black Site” gets mildly interesting in the level of the brutality in its kills, Hatchet just ridiculously merciless and violent to the point it grabs your attention, but again, offers nothing of substance.” D+ The Playlist

Black Site lacks a memorable story and characters, with its villain being the sole exception. It partially makes up for that with very good technical elements and some good thriller moments that express creativity.” 2.5/5 Voices from the Balcony
