Scream 6 was, of course, inevitable with Scream (2022) having earned $140,041,405 worldwide (according to Box Office Mojo) since January 12th 2022 on a reported budget of $24 million. Now it’s been announced the four surviving stars of that movie: Melissa Barrera (Sam), Mason Gooding (Chad), Jenna Ortega (Tara) and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy) will return in the next instalment of the franchise.
Update: Since we posted the casting news above it has also been confirmed that fan favourite Hayden Panettiere, who was so memorable as Kirby Reed in Scream 4, will also be in the next instalment.
Principal photography will commence this summer and the Paramount Pictures-Spyglass Media movie will be released theatrically on March 31, 2023.
Previously, we reported that Courtney Cox will definitely be in the next instalment of the franchise.
“I got the script yesterday,” the star told the Just for Variety podcast. “I haven’t read it yet, I just got it […] I’m excited to read it, and I know they’re gonna start filming I think in June, in Canada. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say anything.
She then joked: “Let me tell you the killer!”
Neve Campbell has confirmed that she has been approached to come back for the next film but her involvement has not been officially announced. While attending the Mad Monster Horror Party horror convention in Concord, North Carolina, she commented about her possible involvement in the sixth movie in the franchise:
“They have approached me. There’s no script yet. There is a draft coming soon is what I was told. Actually, I was supposed to call a producer yesterday, because he wanted to talk to me about what’s going on. You know, we’ll see. I’ll read the script and see how I feel.”
The Radio Silence team’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be returning to direct the slasher sequel with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick back on board writing the screenplay.
The third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, is executive producing alongside Scream creator Kevin Williamson and production company Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.
In a press statement, Spyglass and Paramount jointly enthused: “We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family.”
Radio Silence added: “Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators — and in the lineage Wes and Kevin so expertly built — has been the thrill of a lifetime, and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life.”
Production on Scream 6 will begin this summer and the plot is obviously going to be kept under wraps… unless you maybe ask Courtney Cox
