The First Omen, a prequel to the 1976 horror classic about the rise of the Antichrist, is being developed by 20th Century Studios. Arkasha Stevenson (Legion; Briarpatch) will make her feature film directorial debut at the helm.
The original movie took $60,922,980 at the domestic box office (worldwide figures are not available) and spawned sequels Damien: Omen II (1978), Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981) and TV movie Omen IV: The Awakening (1991). In 2006, a seemingly pointless carbon copy remake of the 1976 film starring Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles and Mia Farrow grossed $119,974,972 worldwide on a reported budget of $25 million.
With Exorcist sequels recently announced it’s a wonder it’s taken so long for The Omen franchise to be resurrected. The only surprise is that, so far, Jason Blum isn’t involved.
