PREY (2022) ‘Predator’ prequel now has a teaser trailer and release date

Prey is a 2022 American sci-fi action horror film that serves as “an origin story about the Predator’s first journey to this planet.”

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) from a screenplay written by Patrick Aison. Produced by John Davis and John Fox (Jungle Cruise).

**There is now updated coverage of this movie – with the first full trailer – here

The 20th Century Studios production prequel stars Amber Midthunder as a female Comanche warrior who encounters an alien Predator. The movie also stars Dane DiLiegro, Stefany Mathias, Stormee Kipp and Dakota Beavers.

Co-producer John Davis told Collider: “It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force. It actually has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon. You’ll know what I mean once you see it.”

He added: “I feel like the first one was a wonderful, interesting movie and I know what worked about it. I feel like we kind of never got back there again. We ended up in different places. I think this is a worthy complement to the first one. It’s going to be as good.”

Previously, cinematographer Jeff Cutter (Orphan, 10 Cloverfield Lane) announced on Instagram that filming has wrapped.

Prey will be available for streaming on the Hulu platform on August 5, 2022.

The production had been using the working title Skulls. We are still baffled as to why the chosen Prey title does not incorporate the vital marketing word “Predator”, e.g. Predator: Prey. Obviously, the singular title ‘Prey’ has been used for many movies so many times before, e.g. German survival thriller Prey (2021), the dull Blumhouse horror Prey (2019) and Spanish movie Ropes (2019) which is also known as Prey. There’s also Norman J. Warren’s Prey (1977) and many more.
