‘Sucks to be you’
Mind Leech is a 2023 Canadian horror film about a very persuasive leech that is wreaking havoc in rural Provinstate in 1998. On a mission to expand its horizons, our influential invertebrate enlists the help of the local townsfolk. The police are soon on the tail of our pesky parasite.

Produced and directed by Chris Cheeseman and Paul Krysinski from a screenplay written by Chris Cheeseman.

Reviews:
“It is a fairly sparse product: I already noted the short running time and single monster – there aren’t that many more humans present in the cast. However, what there is generally makes for amiable viewing. Conover is a lot of fun to watch as the urban fish in rural waters, and her deputy has a nice relationship with the boss, which feels genuine.” Rating: B- Film Blitz

“What Mind Leech lacks in sound quality (watch any low-budget movie to realize how difficult good sound is), it more than makes up for in the quality of the story, acting, humor, and bloody monster gore! […] It’s not an issue for the movie-watching experience, just proof that sound quality means a lot for a movie and isn’t easy (or cheap) if you want a good result.” 3 out of 5, Heaven of Horror

” …provides just enough splatter to keep things interesting. In closing, I’d just like to say that Mind Leech is a fun, campy Canadian horror movie that, despite its short runtime and low budget, makes for a very entertaining and worthwhile viewing experience.” 4 out of 5, Philosophy in Film

“Knowingly absurd, utterly gonzo and effortlessly charming, Mind Leech is a low-budget psychotronic joy that knows its place and loves its characters – and coming in at just an hour in length, it knows exactly what it is and where its boundaries lie, and unlike Craig and the leech (but like Terrika), is content to make the most of its narrow confines. The result is a modest, affectionate portrait of an emerging, entirely avoidable ecological disaster that starts small, and sucks only in a good way.” Projected Figures

“Much like the recently released Cocaine Bear, co-directors Chris Cheeseman and Paul Krysinski know exactly what they are aiming for with Mind Leech – a cult following based on a silly premise. Throw in a bit of gore, a ridiculous creature effect, and a few laughs, then it does exactly what it says on the tin. The only downside is its two-word title. ‘Leech’ would have been more than enough.” 3.5 out of 5, Screen Critix

“It’s relentless, gruesome, dense, and impactful. There is no shortage of gunshots, fire, and explosions, and some of the most interesting special effects happen under and above water. The small cast keeps the story small, for better or worse, and they’re all this script needs.” Tales of Terror

“Outside of its standout setting and lead performance, the plot is one that has been reheated many a time, and veteran horror fans couldn’t be blamed for wanting a bit more originality or refinement. But for anyone looking for a tongue-in-cheek fun horror to switch their brain off to, Mind Leech is one to check out.” UK Film Review
