ALGORITHM: BLISS (2020) Preview of sci-fi horror shocker

‘Euphoria that kills’

Algorithm: BLISS is a 2020 American science-fiction horror feature film about an app that causes the users’ pleasure but lose their minds.

Directed by Isak Borg and Dena Hysell-Cornejo from a screenplay co-written by Golan Ramraz and Isak Borg, the Rumpus Room-Elpis Films production stars Sean Faris, Sarah Roemer, James Saito and Frank Deal. The movie was produced by Dena Hysell-Cornejo and Ellyn Vander Wyden

Plot:

Vic Beckett (Sean Faris), a brilliant researcher, creates the ultimate App that taps into the pleasure centre of the brain and transmits a feeling of nirvana to the user. Instant celebrity and unlimited commercial applications corrupt his altruistic intention and when problems arise with his creation, he justifies doing whatever is necessary to keep the app online…

Reviews:

Algorithm: Bliss might have been a better movie if it continued with the concept that is presented in the very last scene of the film. Instead, the movie lazily becomes just another forgettable horror flick in the last third of the film, with lots of bloody mayhem to try to make up for the weak storyline and plot holes.” Culture Mix

“Low-budget sci-fi is one of the most conducive genres for experimentation and yet everything on the screen is so straightforward. It feels safe, and safe simply isn’t interesting. Despite showing a lot of promise in its first scenes, Algorithm: Bliss isn’t able to pick up the narrative momentum it needs to succeed. It’s not even so bad it’s amusing to watch — it’s just dull.” Disappointment Media
