“Reeder at least tries to make the film look interesting, playing up the visuals as best she can – bringing in glitches you’d see on streaming video to obfuscate and confuse proceedings. But again, come the film’s denouement, where the visuals should bring the wow factor, they look terrible […] And Night’s End‘s conclusion? Wow. If the film itself was a letdown, then the conclusion was even worse…” 1/5 Nerdly
“Acerbic and dystopian Night’s End creates an atmosphere of claustrophobia and dread with its transcendental electronic score from experimental outfit CoastalDives and creepy sound design from Jason Culver. In terms of tone, the movie comes across at times like a blend of Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone and fans of either will find much to enjoy.” The People’s Movies
“The stressful situation bubbles up within Ken, much like his regularly made soup, offering the potential for something atmospheric within an isolated location. How unfortunate this tension isn’t replicated for audiences to feel, as close-up shots of shocked faces isn’t an effective substitute for excitement.” The Reviewing Rodders
“Night’s End is the kind of intimate horror that, arguably, could only be made since we have had a better understanding of what it means to be physically isolated and technically connected at the same time. Reeder does great work expanding her particular nuance with the darkest recesses of human minds on the edge, their weaknesses and desperation.” Screen Anarchy
” …there are some creepy moments to be had at times and highlighting mental health struggles in males is particularly admirable. Walker, however, is consistently excellent in the lead role. There’s an interesting concept in Brett Neveu’s script, but it would have likely worked better as a longer short than a feature.” Starburst
Release date:
Night’s End premiered on the Shudder platform in North America, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Ireland on March 31, 2022.
“Jennifer Reeder is an exciting and bold filmmaker who was an integral part of V/H/S/94, Shudder’s most-watched movie ever,” said Craig Engler, general manager of Shudder. “Night’s End is eerie but human, sharply written and sure to surprise our members this March.”
Jennifer Reeder added: “As a longtime Shudder fan, I am deeply honoured to now be part of the Shudder fam! I’ve made two Shudder films this year, which feels like a dream (although both films play out more like nightmares).
Throughout the process of making these films with Shudder, I have felt enormously supported and my creative vision protected and amplified. Shudder cares as much about filmmakers as they do about films which is a rare and coveted combination.”
