‘Bring your nightmares to life’
Stopmotion
is a 2023 British horror film about an animator struggling to control her demons after the loss of her overbearing mother.

Directed by Robert Morgan – making his feature directorial debut – (The ABCs of Death ‘D Is for Deloused,’ short: Bobby Yeah) from a screenplay co-written with Robin King. Produced by Alain de la Mata and Christopher Granier-Deferre. Executive produced by Noémie Devide.

The Blue Light production stars Aisling Franciosi (The Last Voyage of the Demeter; The Nightingale), Stella Gonet, Tom York, Caoilinn Springall, Joshua J Parker, James Swanton, Jaz Hutchins and Bridgitta Roy.

Plot:
Ella Blake (Aisling Franciosi) is a stop-motion animator trying to control her demons after losing her overbearing mother. Suddenly alone in the world, she creates a macabre new puppet film, while struggling to maintain her sanity.

As Ella’s mind starts to fracture, the characters in her animated film take on a terrifying life of their own, and the unleashed power of her imagination threatens to destroy her…

Release:
Stopmotion premiered in the US at Fantastic Fest in September 2023, before being shown at the BFI London Film Festival on October 7, 2023.

In the US, IFC Films released Stopmotion theatrically in select locations on February 23, 2024. The movie will stream on Shudder from May 31, 2024. Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks’ film group was quoted saying: “IFC and Shudder are ecstatic to bring Robert Morgan’s riveting live-action/animation hybrid to audiences everywhere. Stopmotion is excellent as it weaves together a unique, psychological horror with unbelievable visuals. The film joins the ranks of critically acclaimed titles such as Mad God and The Wolf House – breaking ground for how we perceive stop-motion in horror. We are thrilled to distribute Morgan’s first full-length feature for its theatrical release and presence on our streaming platform, Shudder.”
