MANIA Renato Polselli’s so-bad-it’s good hysteria! Free on YouTube

Mania is a 1973 Italian horror thriller film written, directed and produced by Renato Polselli (Black Magic Rites; The Truth According to Satan; Delirium; The  Monster of the Opera; The Vampire and the Ballerina) as Ralph Brown. Exploitation hack Claudio Fragasso (Troll 2) was the assistant director.

The movie stars Brad Euston (who also wrote the initial draft of the screenplay), Isarco Ravaioli, Eva Spadaro, Carla Mancini, Max Dorian, and Mirella Rossi.

The film had a limited theatrical release in 1974 due to censorship issues.

Mania was considered ‘lost’ until 2007 when when a 35mm copy was discovered in the censor’s archive in Rome and then screened along with a few other titles at the Trevi cinema as part of a festival devoted to Polselli, who died in 2006.

Plot:
Professor Brecht (Brad Euston) finds out his wife Lisa (Eva Spadaro) is having an affair with his twin brother Giordano. A lab fire causes Brecht’s death, with Lisa complicit in the crime. Years later, she returns to their villa with her fiancé, a former assistant to the Professor, to deal with her trauma. Things do not go well…
