Drag Me to Hell is a 2009 supernatural horror film about a bank loans officer who becomes cursed with eternal damnation.
Directed by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead and sequels), from a screenplay co-written with Ivan Raimi.
Raimi wrote Drag Me to Hell with his brother, Ivan, prior to working on the Spider-Man films. The horror movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was generally well-received by critics. It was also a box office success, taking $90.8 million worldwide on a $30 million budget.
Plot:
Bank loan officer Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) tries to impress her boss by refusing to extend a loan to a gypsy woman by the name of Mrs Ganush (Lorna Raver).
In retaliation, Mrs Ganush places a curse on Christine that, after three days of escalating torment, will plunge her into the depths of Hell to burn for eternity…

“A blistering sound design and largely great (save for occasionally clumsy computer graphics) FX work with Raimi’s dizzying camera to create an atmosphere of popcorn pandemonium during the film’s technical highlights – a seance; a late-night visit to the cemetery – while elsewhere the assured combination of gags and horror (mostly of the cartoonish gross-out variety) recall the director’s celebrated Evil Dead II (1987).” Stuart Willis, The New Flesh: 21st Century Horror Films A – Z, Vol.1 book
