Haunting of Mount Welirang is a 2026 Indonesian horror film about five friends who set out on a climbing and camping trip. What was initially planned to be a fun vacation turns into a terrifying experience when they get lost and encounter the supernatural figure of Queen on their way to the summit. Inspired by the alleged real-life experiences of nature vlogger Maya Azka, the film blends survival horror with Indonesian folklore and mountain mythology.

Rather than relying solely on jump scares, the film builds its horror around Indonesian folklore, supernatural beliefs surrounding sacred mountains, and the idea that disrespecting places believed to be spiritually inhabited can have deadly consequences.

The movie was directed by Indra Gunawan from a screenplay by Upi Avianto and Maya Azka.

Produced by Starvision Plus production stars Antonio Blanco Jr, Alika Jantinia, Giulio Parengkuan, Razan Zu, Jinan Safa and Hana Saraswati.

Plot [includes spoilers]:
After completing their university final projects, five close friends—Satria, Arga, Noval, Naya, and Tita—decide to celebrate by climbing Mount Welirang, an active volcano in East Java. What begins as a long-awaited graduation adventure quickly turns unsettling as they enter the mysterious Alas Lali Jiwo (“Forest of Forgotten Souls”), a place steeped in local legends and believed to be inhabited by supernatural beings.

As they venture deeper into the forest, the group hears the haunting sound of a traditional Javanese gamelan orchestra echoing through the trees despite there being no sign of other people. Strange apparitions begin appearing, their equipment malfunctions, and they become hopelessly lost. The friends soon realise they have crossed into territory governed by ancient mystical forces rather than the ordinary laws of nature.

The terror escalates when they encounter the spectral Queen and her ghostly followers, entities said to rule the supernatural realm hidden within the mountain. One by one, each member of the group experiences terrifying visions and psychological torment that prey on their deepest fears and guilt. Their friendship is tested as panic and suspicion grow, making it difficult to distinguish reality from illusion.

To survive, the friends must uncover the truth behind the mountain’s curse and understand why they have become targets of the spirits that inhabit Alas Lali Jiwo. As they search desperately for a way out of the enchanted forest, they discover that escaping Mount Welirang may require confronting forces that have claimed countless victims before them…
