‘The dead are through just lying around…’
Last Rites of the Dead aka Zombies Anonymous is a 2006 American comedy horror film written and directed by Marc Fratto. It stars Gina Ramsden and Joshua Nelson.
SGL Entertainment released Last Rites of the Dead to Blu-ray, DVD and VOD in 2018: “Horror fans may remember this cult classic horror comedy film under the name ZA or Zombies Anonymous. This version is a brand new Director’s Cut, and has a ton of cool footage that was cut out from the original DVD release. And, the Blu-ray and DVD is loaded with extras.”
An unexplained zombie plague breaks out, causing the recently deceased to continue walking the earth. Despite being undead, the zombies retain all of their senses and wits, including the ability to speak and think rationally.
The only way to kill a zombie is to completely destroy the brain, preferably with shotgun or explosives. An international crisis develops and the world breaks up into several camps, including anti-zombie militants, and zombie sympathizers.
“The film raises a lot of speculations and a whole new world of possibilities in the rules of zombieness. Add to that a decent amount of gore and some pretty good fight scenes and you have a pretty solid flick.” Horrorthon
” …the depiction of a society trying to deal with the epidemic ranks amongst the best satirical zombie movies in the tradition of Romero. Unfortunately, the characterizations and some of the acting form poor caricatures, with the worst offenders being the ridiculous female group leaders which are acted over-the-top.” The Worldwide Celluloid Massacre
“With enough gore and violence to keep fans of modern zombie movie happy, enough character development, soul-wrenching horror and tragedy to keep fans of classic horror movies entertained, and enough intelligent content and social commentary to keep all but the most snobbish “intellectuals” engaged, this is a film all horror fans can appreciate.” Terror Titans
“ZA comes pretty close to being a damn decent movie. It has some good gore, a very solid lead in Gina Ramsden, Joshua Nelson has his moments and there are some nicely done scenes. But its script is, at times, god awful. The word “f*ck” is used so often, I have to wonder if much of it was ad-libbed.” Steve Patee, Horror Talk
