Curse of Chucky is a 2013 American horror film written and directed by Don Mancini, who created Child’s Play and has written all sequels to date. The movie stars Fiona Dourif, Danielle Bisutti, Brennan Elliott, Chantal Quesnelle and Maitland McConnell.

The soundtrack score was composed by Joseph LoDuca who also worked on The Cult of Chucky (2017), the Boogeyman movies, The Messenger (2007) and the Evil Dead franchise.

Plot:

Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) arrives with her young family in town to help settle their mother’s affairs.

As the sisters clash over Nica’s plans for the future, Barb’s young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (voiced again by Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. However, as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorise the household, Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed.

What she doesn’t know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. He’s determined to finish a job he started more than twenty years earlier, and this time he’s going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end…

Reviews:

” …the long gap between Chucky adventures makes even a predictably goofy installment seem all the more inviting.  And whether it is the dilation of Chucky’s pupils or the clink of a spoon against tooth enamel, the production is clearly putting its best foot forward with a focus on slick camera movements and an attention to little details in visuals and sound design.” Culture Crypt

“Mancini’s decision to avoid humor almost entirely pays off, again making Chucky an object of fright, not funnies. Several sequences are calculated to make the most of audiences’ fears of dolls that move, much less kill, and despite the occasional over-flourishing camera movement, they click with a gory goodness.” Flick Attack

“I do wish he made his grand re-appearance earlier – hands and feet are all we get until about the 50 minute point, and I get the thinking but at the same time – it’s Child’s Play 6, we don’t need to milk it like Jaws. Plus, at 96 minutes its the longest entry, and didn’t really need to be as the story only gets complicated (for lack of a better word) in the 3rd act, when the Charles Lee Ray stuff comes into focus.”  Horror Movie a Day

“While the low budget does catch up with Curse in a few notable areas (the scope of the film, some of the CGI gore and Chucky effects), it works as a throwback to the gory era that spawned Child’s Play and beyond. By the time we arrive at the sixth entry in a slasher series, we’re here to watch the killer do his thing, but Curse appreciably provides some compelling and likable would-be victims.” Oh, the Horror!

” …Curse of Chucky largely isn’t, it should be noted, particularly scary. It has a few decent jumps and some inventively squirmy gore, but it feels more like an exercise in low-budget style than a truly involving horror movie.” Pop Matters
