Reviews:
” …use of found-footage leaves the film feeling like a decent premise with nowhere to go. Presented as a documentary made by a teenager, the movie is relentlessly uninteresting, only watchable because of a few mild jolts and a blackly comical freakishness.” Contactmusic.com
“Shyamalan creates a creepy atmosphere and some of his shock tactics are effective. The Visit, though, is the kind of movie you expect from a first-timer searching for a voice, not someone with his experience. It is contrived, the child actors aren’t especially sympathetic and the final reel feels especially clunky.” Independent (UK)
“It’s a film filled with great moments of tension and remarkably few cheap jump scares. Shyamalan has found a tone that works like magic, a tone that allows him to go from murder to a joke in a heartbeat without invalidating either.” Birth. Movies. Death.

“Is it meant to be a horror film? Or a comedy? The publicity calls it “an original thriller” but it is neither of those things. Only “endurance test” adequately describes the ill-judged shenanigans that ensue.” The Observer
“The Visit is a fun and kitschy horror parable – though the trademark Shyamalan twist will be a big disappoint for many viewers.” Screen Rant
“As in all sub-Blair Witch rip-offs, the images captured, in the midst of mayhem, are preposterous. Shyamalan is cheating us but also himself. Given his one-time reputation as a serious director, we can’t believe our eyes.” London Evening Standard
” … The Visit is great fun. It’s genuinely funny while still managing to tap into our dark fears of the familiar becoming terrifyingly unfamiliar, of sweet turning suddenly sour. It’s also Shyamalan’s best film in years, and should be celebrated as such.” IGN
“An hour of numbingly tedious potter precedes the inevitable twist-reveal, which plunges us into a risible final act combining the twin pleasures of Yahtzee and adult incontinence. Dull, derivative and flatly unscary.” The Guardian
” … shows us the M. Night Shyamalan that could have been and could hopefully still be: a guy who’s more suited to being the next Rod Serling than he is the next Steven Spielberg and who’s more at home telling tales of the inexplicable, uncanny and unthinkable that happen in our own homes and towns rather than on other worlds or in other dimensions or whatever the hell.” Trash Film Guru
