“It’s a good slice of life, and a good microscope on the part Hollywood usually doesn’t show us in this genre. Before the Fire isn’t about surviving an apocalypse; it’s about how to survive yourself.” Fanboy Planet

Before The Fire is about trauma, family dynamics, fear, betrayal, and power. It will pull you in from the very first moments and not let up until the credits. It’s like watching a pot boil over and you cannot reach the burner. It feels too real.” I Scream, You Scream

“The setting of this film is goddamn perfect, with South Dakota serving as ideal environments for a film about, well, Midwest rural farms. The camera work is conventional but effective, balancing longer shots with quick not-exactly-on-the-action cuts when the action starts to amp up. Accurate farm duties, for this Midwestern idiot (i.e. me), were also a huge plus. Well done.” Killer Horror Critic

“By imbuing the film with the constant threat of danger, Buhler and Adams give Ava the opportunity for self-actualization without the need for a compromise predicated on her gender or background. The empathetic storytelling on display is well-realized, and, especially for a first-time director, Buhler has an impressive control of tone…”
