One Way is a 2022 American crime thriller about a petty crook on a Greyhound bus who has stolen from a drug lord and has a gunshot wound.

Directed by Andrew Baird (Zone 414; War Requiem and several music videos) from a screenplay written by Ben Conway (Nightride; Bugaloo).

The movie stars Travis Fimmel, Kevin Bacon, Drea de Matteo, Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly, Storm Reid, Rhys Coiro, Meagan Holder, K.D. O’Hair, Luis Da Silva Jr, Thomas Francis Murphy, Casie Baker, Danny Bohnen and Scotty Bohnen.

Plot synopsis:
Downtown Los Angeles, Present Day. Freddy (Colson Baker), a petty criminal, is on the run with a bag full of cash and coke. He’s way over his head and hurt bad. With a bullet in his guts, he’s running out of time. Fast. If he doesn’t get a blood transfusion in the next couple of hours he’s dead meat. He’ll be dead even quicker if Vic (Drea de Matteo), the female Mexican drug baron he’s stolen from catches him first.

Freddy hops on a Greyhound bus in skid row with a one-way ticket to the deep California desert. His friends, Mac and JJ are not so lucky. Freddy tries every trick in the book and every meaningful relationship he has to get him out of this ever-building boiler room. The bus becomes his purgatory. On board, one of the passengers doesn’t appear to be what they seem while another, a teenage girl, moves herself into a dangerous and dark situation.

As Freddy’s time is running out he is faced with himself, his demons and what to do for his daughter and her mom, the love of his life. As well as saving the young girl on board and his own soul. There is only… one way.

Reviews:
“Admittedly, logic is thrown out the window (the bus driver never notices any blood, which conveniently never drips anywhere, hardly anyone is kicked out for arguing and physical altercations, and it’s difficult to buy into anyone, let alone a minor, taking a bus to meet someone she has never seen a picture or video of before), but One Way mitigates that with some solid, tense direction and impressive acting turns (primarily from an ensemble of rising stars).” 3 out of 5, Flickering Myth

“A 96-minute runtime hurts One Way more than the director must’ve known, as Conway’s script is full of phone calls, phone calls, and more phone calls for much of its length. Better casting would’ve gone a long way here – though Baker gives a solid performance, most of the supporting cast (Reid, de Matteo, Da Silva, and Holder) aren’t good enough actors to carry their weight; Fimmel and Bacon bring their charms though.” 2.5 out of 5, Voices from the Balcony
