Reviews:
Dangerous Waters is entertaining and deliriously daft and is firmly in the ‘Saturday night pizza and a six-pack’ category but it’s a lot of fun and Odeya Rush at only 26 years of age is great in the role relishing every smack down and having had roles in Lady Bird and Goosebumps this is a radically different direction which she is wholly at ease.” Any Good Films?

Dangerous Waters becomes ridiculous in the end, going for cartoonish violence instead of a serious sense of dread, trying to reach a point of leadership for Rose that’s too much to swallow. There are three different movies competing for attention in Dangerous Waters, and none of them work, falling short of potential as the whole effort slowly loses sight of the relationship story it initially wants to explore.” ★★ Blu-ray.com

“Some movies can pull off a mishmash of multiple genres but it looks awkwardly misplaced in Dangerous Waters. From there, we see Odeya Rush’s Rose morphed into someone else entirely. A young woman who can fight and handle guns like a pro […] Dangerous Waters also falters in focusing on the two-hander interaction moments between Rose and Derek. There’s a huge sense of blandness in Eric Dane’s performance…” ★★ Casey’s Movie Mania

“The only good thing that could come from Dangerous Waters is a talented filmmaking team drawing inspiration from the core idea of the third act action, which Odeya Rush delivers a solid physical performance for (there is a brutal kill where she strangles someone with a shirt). Otherwise, what’s truly dangerous is the perilous VOD landscape where someone possibly might waste their money on this. Tread those waters carefully.” Flickering Myth

” …it’s amusing to find yourself suddenly in the midst of a gender-flipped Steven Seagal film. The aforementioned Captain turns out to be Ray Liotta, who in his final performance (he died during production) still has an offbeat intensity, like a deranged William Shatner. Barr keeps things motoring with a baleful zip that mostly rides out the bumps and general daftness.” ★★★ The Guardian

“Relying more on stunts and less on single-location minimalism, it leans into being a sleazy action B-movie. Rose gives a good fight even as she gets punched and kicked around, and the late Liotta (giving his final performance) does bring a skeevy menace to his brief but very uncomfortable scene. Even as sex trafficking comes into play, Dangerous Waters never dives into tacky exploitation.” ★★½ Guy at the Movies

“Some elements do keep the material relatively grounded in some sort of reality. The helplessness of the post-attack scenes on the boat is tangible, and that island, for as little as it’s actually incorporated into the plot, provides a sense of isolation that somewhat convinces us Rose might let her guard down in the hopes of some aid. Rush’s performance is generally fine…” 2 out of 4, Mark Reviews Movies

“It is a movie that you feel could have gone in one direction and not had as big of an impact. However, it keeps offering more leading us to the surprise direction everything ends up going. Odeya Rush is brilliant in the leading role. Although, it does seem to show how the movie needed to make changes due to the tragic death of Ray Liotta.” ★★★ Movie Reviews 101

“It’s very talkative at times and sadly lacking much in the way of real thrills. There were too stretches that afforded me to be too easily distracted by my phone pinging rather than sitting on the edge of my seat. Also, there were too many times where plausibility took a back seat and overall Dangerous Waters never soars with it often feeling lifeless and cruising on autopilot instead.” 5 out of 10, My Bloody Reviews

Dangerous Waters occasionally teeters precariously on the brink of some well-trodden narrative paths but manages to steer clear of total predictability, especially in its climax. The final act reinvigorates the journey, plunging us into a maelstrom of action and passionate confrontations, delivering us to a concluding port that is both explosively satisfying and emotionally resonant. This saves a slow-burn film from dragging the entire runtime.” ★★★½ Overly Honest Movie Reviews
