The Looming is a forthcoming horror film about an old man who hears strange noises at home but nobody believes him.
The movie is a feature-length adaptation of the short of the same name by Masha Ko which garnered much praise at this year’s Sundance festival and won a special prize for shorts with the juror’s commenting: “Terrifyingly beautiful seems like an oxymoronic phrase, but this terrifying yet beautiful short left us deeply moved and served as a haunting reminder to not send your parents’ calls to voicemail.”

A24 is backing the feature version of The Looming which is being written and directed by Masha Ko. She is both a film director and a human installation artist, intending to highlight the stories of individuals who are often overlooked by society and whose lives are rarely celebrated through artistic forms.

In the short:
Chester (played by Joseph Lopez), a seventy-year-old man, begins hearing strange noises in his home. Although he seeks help from his daughter Sarah (Audrey Del Prete) and coworkers, they dismiss his concerns. But when Luna (Brianne Buishas), his home audio assistant, detects the sounds, Chester realises that it has not all been in his head…
A24 is producing alongside Square Peg’s Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, and Tyler Campellone and Causeway Films’ Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton. A24 will finance the film and handle worldwide distribution.
