Wolves Against the World is a 2024 horror film in which two members of a defunct ultra-right-wing metal band reunite at the site where their bandmate took his own life. One sinks into depravity and grievance, one tries to atone for what he has done. What ensues is an occult battle of wills between two men who have done terrible things while one tries to lure the other back into the movement, unleashing the animals that hide inside them…
The movie was written, directed by and co-stars Quinn Armstrong (Survival Skills; plus shorts). It was produced by Philip R. Garrett and Andrew James Myers. The movie also stars Michael Kunicki, Jordan Mullins and Jacob Southwick.
Wolves Against the World is the second film from Armstrong’s ‘Fresh Hell’ trilogy. The first in the new trilogy is The Exorcism of Saint Patrick.
Blurb:
“Three Realities. Same Hell. From writer/director Quinn Armstrong (Survival Skills) and the studio that brought you Nightmare Cinema comes ‘Fresh Hell’: a new triptych of three visionary horror features. Travel to the world of a nefarious conversion camp due for a reckoning with The Exorcism of Saint Patrick, to a commune of ultra-right-wing metalheads who can’t harness the beasts inside with Wolves Against the World, and into an archetypal ‘cabin in the woods’ where the ill-fated teens take control of their narrative in Dead Teenagers.
With ‘Fresh Hell’, Armstrong lovingly harkens back to the Hammer Horror or Roger Corman model of shooting films on a small budget back-to-back, each film with its unique aesthetic and cleverly interconnected elements between them.”
Reviews:
“Wolves Against the World’s strength stands in the color and composition of its visuals. The story, however, well-acted, is a scattershot mess, ambling around things rather than getting at things. After long, unbroken passages of dialogue, snatches of found footage tease a plot ready to kick in, only to fall back into another tedious exchange.” Flick Attack
“While the runtime is just 88 minutes, I still found it a little too long. It never gets boring, but it could’ve been a sharper story with a tighter pace. I was not a fan of the non-chronological storytelling that made the story more difficult to ingest. Still, the cast led by Michael Kunicki and Quinn Armstrong makes this worth watching!” ★★ Heaven of Horror
“Performances are excellent, and Armstrong and Kunicki give memorable accounts of trying to resolve a tangled history. Mother of Movies gives praise to the aesthetic once again. Knowing the production is heavily reliant on saving dollars, the cinematography highlights strong visuals that are upheld by the choice of camerawork.” ★★★½ Mother of Movies
“Wolves Against the World is a testament to the power of horror to delve into complex, often uncomfortable themes. It grapples with the shadows of the past and the daunting challenge of confronting one’s darkest impulses. With its atmospheric tension and stark moral questions, this film is poised to leave a lasting impact on its viewers.” ★★★ Overly Honest Reviews
“Despite being a mixed bag, Wolves Against the World has the bones of a good horror film: interesting characters, a unique premise, and some genuinely striking visuals. Where it falls short is in its pacing issues, lackluster dialogue, and broad-focus narrative. This one is undoubtedly made with true genre fans in mind, but it could benefit from tighter editing and a more controlled story to gain mainstream appeal.” Screen Zealots
” …in the last half hour, Wolves Against the World starts to snarl, but it needs Louis to make a couple of incredibly stupid decisions to get to that point. Even worse, despite the film’s artwork and synopsis, there are no werewolves or occult battles of will. Just some bloodthirsty Fourth Reich wannabes think they become animals, just like the Viking berserkers they idolize.” ★½ Voices from the Balcony
