Reviews:
“Barker’s feature works so well because it has a DIY spirit. You get a sense that he and his friends had a blast making this movie and releasing it themselves. Yet, it’s the commentary on streaming and spectatorship that elevates this film. While watching this, I continually thought of the Shudder hit Deadstream […] Both films have a chaotic energy and punk rock spirit to them.” 1428 Elm

“Speaking as someone who regularly watches DIY horror, and who has seen more “found footage” films than I can remember, Milk & Serial defies the odds that are usually against both of those formats. The first-person frame fits the context. The performances are believable. And the story’s swerves remain relatively grounded so the film flies by as engaging entertainment even though its material is shockingly grim.” 75/100 Culture Crypt

“Sometimes a found footage film is too well shot, which dispels to a degree the story and film aspect. Here, the footage feels more real, the choice of camera angles and how the camera moves at times, adding to that feeling. Credit has to go to Barker and Tomlinson for that. Story-wise is perhaps where the film has its flaws.” ★★★ The Grump of Horror

“As a film it’s great. There are some incredibly neatly observed moments, such as when the main character describes gaslighting as “when you prank somebody but make them think it’s their fault”. Plus, even though the casting seems to be pulled from Barker’s own social circle, each character appears to be written to everyone’s individual strengths.” The Guardian

Milk & Serial is exactly the kind of guerrilla filmmaking that thrives in the horror genre. Any time a new director comes on the scene, it’s easy to say that they are someone to watch, but Barker has been crafting creative and well-made short horror films for some time now […] Milk & Serial is the darkest entry yet, but it’s also the most daring, cohesive and rewarding.” Haddonfield Horror

“For most of its run time Milk & Serial forces us to endure the POV of its antagonist, but despite the horrors we witness them committing, Barker gets inside our heads and makes us unwitting participants. When a crime is to be covered up, we almost feel as though we’re accomplices, and we find ourselves tensing up when it seems the villain is about to be rumbled. Barker keeps us on our toes with a series of twists and turns, and by switching perspective to occasionally remind us we’ve been rooting for the wrong person.” ★★★½ The Movie Waffler
