Reviews:
“In Benjamin Barfoot’s Daddy’s Head, the true demons are those that arise from within in grief’s depths. Though not flawless, the film endures in my mind through its haunting evocation of loss and the fragments we leave behind. Barfoot invites interpretation through restraint rather than exposition, crafting a somber yet powerfully unsettling portrait of souls unraveling.” 7/10 Gazettely

Daddy’s Head offers plenty of spooky atmosphere and imagery, even though it doesn’t really do enough to color outside the lines of The Babadook. Many of these moody horror movies about grief and loss feel derivative and left without anything new to contribute to their storytelling or characters. However, Barfoot is a promising new voice with a clear understanding of how to craft a good scare.” ★★★ Guy at the Movies

“Whether daddy’s head, which resembles Max Headroom by way of 3D metal pin art sitting atop a black spider’s body, really exists or not is left ambiguous, but other than a symbol of the divide in Laura and Isaac’s relationship and/or their grief, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, its disturbing agenda at odds with the man it represents.  And while we feel for the boy, it is difficult to find sympathy for Laura, whose background consists of a wispy reference to rehab…” Grade: C+ Reeling Reviews

” …it all works primarily because of Barfoot’s oversight of the film’s sharp technical elements, including fantastic production design, cinematography, and editing. While I wish he had one or two fewer jump scares and a bit more refined CGI, what works here is the film’s overall mood more than individual moments. Most effectively, Barfoot and his team turn this cold, remote estate into a character…” 3 out of 4, RogerEbert.com

“The camerawork, special effects, creature design and the design of its lair create a spiderweb for the imagination and what skitters out of it comes straight from the darkest regions of the uncanny valley. But Barfoot is also careful to limit how much of the creature we see at any one time, making Daddy’s Head one of the more effective horrors of the year for me. The obvious metaphor of the screenplay is also well-handled.” Screen Anarchy
