Robert Eggers’ remake of Nosferatu has now taken $137,948,195 worldwide according to Box Office Mojo which makes it the third most successful horror film of 2024 behind Alien: Romulus and A Quiet Place: Day One. The movie’s estimated budget was $50 million.

‘Succumb to the darkness’
Nosferatu is a 2024 Gothic horror film about the obsession between a haunted young woman and an ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.
The movie is the second remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 German silent horror classic which was previously remade in 1979 by Werner Herzog.
Written, directed and co-produced by Robert Eggers (The Northman; The Lighthouse; The Witch).
The production stars Bill Skarsgård (IT), Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Simon McBurney and Ralph Ineson.

In April 2024, CinemaCon attendees witnessed the first look and transformation of Bill Skarsgård (also starring in The Crow reboot) into the legendary vampire, Count Orlok. In an interview with Empire magazine, Eggars expressed his concern that Skarsgård’s profound transformation might overshadow the brilliance of his performance. The filmmaker envisions a portrayal that pays homage to the legendary performances of Max Schreck and Klaus Kinski while carving its unique place in cinematic history.

Previously, writer-director Robert Eggers told Empire Magazine: “It’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie. And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.”

Reviews:
“As much as Skarsgard’s fearsome Orlok, the movie belongs to Depp, whose performance is a revelation. Their scenes together are electric, bristling with a conflicting rush of revulsion and desire, trance and lucidity, resistance and fated surrender […] Every age gets its definitive film of Stoker’s vampire legend. Eggers has given us a magnificent version for today with roots that stretch back a century.” The Hollywood Reporter
“If the makeup is impressive, Skarsgård’s undead baritone is what most brings the undead character to life, his every word of dialogue sounding as though it’s just been rolled across the river Styx. If Skarsgård doesn’t make the same impression as Max Schreck, that’s largely because Eggers’ adaptation doesn’t give him much of a chance to emerge from the periphery. While reducing Orlok to an appetite is what allows Nosferatu to focus its energy on Ellen, the vampire is such a fantastic representation of Mrs Hutter’s shadow that he struggles to take shape in her absence.” IndieWire
