‘Evil found a way out’
Insidious: Out of the Further is a 2026 supernatural horror film which introduces a new family and a fresh storyline centred on the terrifying spirit realm known as “The Further.” It is the sixth instalment in the Insidious franchise and serves as a follow-up to Insidious: The Red Door.
Previous Insidious films focused on people becoming trapped in The Further. This instalment reverses the concept: the danger comes from entities crossing into the living world. The film expands the mythology of The Further and introduces a new central villain while moving beyond the Lambert family storyline that drove the earlier films.
The movie was directed by Jacob Chase from a screenplay co-written with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Leigh Whannell.
The production stars Insidious veteran Lin Shaye plus Sam Spruell, Brandon Perea, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Joseph Lopez, Amelia Eve, Laura Gordon, Julie Nihill, Island Austin and Charli Penton.
Plot:
Gemma, a young mother, has moved back into the house with her daughter where she grew up. While struggling to rebuild her life, she discovers that she possesses a rare and dangerous ability: she can enter The Further, the dark limbo-like dimension inhabited by lost souls and demonic entities.
When a malevolent force begins stalking her family, Gemma learns that her power goes far beyond astral projection. Unlike previous victims and mediums, she can bring beings from The Further into the real world. This terrifying gift attracts the attention of powerful demons, who realise that Gemma could become the bridge they need to permanently invade reality.
After decades of facing the horrors that linger beyond life, Elise Rainier’s legacy returns to haunt the living once more. When a mysterious new psychic medium discovers Elise’s old case files buried deep within the archives of the “Further Institute,” she unknowingly awakens a presence that should have remained sealed forever.
Josh Lambert, now older and tormented by echoes of the past, reluctantly joins forces with the new investigator, guided by a cryptic priestess who seems to know more about Elise’s final encounter than she reveals. Together, they journey back into The Further — only to find it has evolved into something darker and more sentient, feeding on fear itself.
As the barriers between life and death collapse, the group discovers that Elise’s spirit has been trying to warn them of something catastrophic: a demonic force born from the collective agony of every soul trapped in The Further. To save both worlds, they must confront their own past sins, risking their sanity to close the gateway once and for all…
