‘Once you go up, you never come down.’
Scarecrows is a 2017 Canadian horror film co-produced and directed by Stu Stone (The Haunted House on Kirby Road; actor in Tar; Vampire Apocalypse; Donnie Darko) from a screenplay co-written with co-producer Adam Rodness (The Haunted House on Kirby Road; actor in Hemlock Grove). The 5’7 Films production stars Hannah Gordon, Mike Taylor and Maaor Ziv.
Plot:
While on a hike to find a secret “luxury” lagoon, four teenagers have no choice but to pass through an ominous cornfield. Unbeknownst to them, the farm owner despises trespassers and has vowed to kill anyone who crosses his land by turning them into living scarecrows, leaving them to be pecked to death by crows and rot in his fields…
Reviews:
” …although Scarecrows has one or two original ideas of its own and a couple of gore-filled torture scenes, the overly hackneyed ‘reckless and dumb teens on vacation’ scenario, the obnoxiously shallow characters you enjoy to see dying, and the lack of tension slash this one’s chances to be bloody fun at least.” CineMarvellous!
“Technically okay, but that’s it. Scarecrows is not exactly what you would expect from a successful horror movie. The characters are annoying and unwise […] Violence is rarely used, which is unsatisfactory given the fact that Scarecrows belongs to the backwoods horror section.” Filmchecker [translated from German]
