‘The house always wins’

Ouija House is a 2017 American supernatural horror feature film directed by Ben Demaree (Hansel vs Gretel) from a screenplay by Justin Hawkins and producer Jeff Miller (ClownTown; The Burning Dead; Axe Giant; et al), based on a story by the latter. The Millman Production stars Tara Reid, Mischa Barton, and Dee Wallace.

A graduate student, who is trying to finish the last of her research on a book project that she hopes will help her down-on-her-luck mother, brings friends to a house with a dark past, where they soon unwittingly summon an evil entity who makes the house part of its game…

Ouija House isn’t a lazy movie as there is legitimate effort to be seen here and there on the screen.  But it is a rushed production, and negligence rears its ugly head far more often in these woefully dopey details […] With only a modest amount of additional elbow grease, flaws might have been forgivable. Instead, the film is simply forgettable.” Culture Crypt

” …the title is for once entirely accurate – the house they’re in acts as a giant ouija board, for reasons too ludicrous to detail […] Actually Ouija House is quite fun. Pretty much every genre standby is chucked in, from the aforementioned ouija board to spooky dolls to demonic possession.” Dark Eyes of London

“There are glimmers of hope here and there, but in general the entire production was doomed by a one-pass script in need of serious doctoring […] There’s no rhyme nor reason for the characters to speak and/or act other than to further the plot, and even that only leads to weirder and unrelated revelations that burst from nowhere.” Movie Crypt
