‘They wanted a baby in the worst way.’
Cynthia is a 2018 American comedy horror film directed by Devon Downs and Kenny Gage (Anarchy Parlor) from a screenplay by Robert Rhine (Exorcism at 60,000 Feet). The Girls and Corpses production stars Scout Taylor-Compton, Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Robert LaSardo. Genre stalwarts Lynn Lowry and James Karen have cameo roles.
Robin (Scout Taylor-Compton) and Michael (Kyle Jones) are college sweethearts who seemingly have everything – a perfect marriage, adorable cat, a beautiful home, but one thing is missing from this idyllic setting – a baby. After years of fertility treatments, their dreams come true when Robin finds out she is pregnant. Is this a dream come true or a nightmare come to life?…
“Cynthia is a campy delight with the most hideously adorably creature ever made. It is really a perfect storm of different horror elements. The film has a fantastic cast, superb creature design, and it is hilarious. The only downside to the film is some of the medical scenes and terminology are off, but since the rest of the film involves a strange baby-creature these inaccuracies are easy to overlook.” The Blogging Banshee!
“Screenwriter Robert Rhine and co-directors Devon Downs and Kenny Gage have made something polished, colorful and energetic… The picture builds to a properly crazed crescendo, showcasing an impressively disgusting monster.” L.A. Times
“If you’ve seen movies like Basket Case, It’s Alive or Braindead (aka Dead Alive), you might have an idea where this one’s going to go. It’s funny as hell and even gorier and there are some fantastic turns from an all-star genre cast, including one memorable performance by Bill Moseley in drag as a crazy homeless woman called Buttercup.” Nerdvana
Cynthia was released theatrically by Indican Pictures in select locations on August 31, 2018, and is out on DVD and VOD on September 18, 2018.
