‘They reopened a door that should have stayed closed’
The Rizen: Possession is a 2019 British science fiction action horror film written and directed by Matt Mitchell (The Rizen; It Never SleepsGangsters, Guns & Zombies). The Lost Eye Films production stars Julian Rhind-Tutt, Sally Phillips, Adrian Edmondson, Carol Cleveland, Sarine Sofair and Stephen Marcus. Also released as The Facility

Plot:
In 1955, NATO and the Allied Forces conducted secret, occult experiments in a bid to win the Arms Race. They succeeded, but what they unleashed almost tore our world apart. Now a group of young urban explorers and a private military unit could become the final pieces in a sixty-year plan to reopen a door that should have stayed closed…

Reviews:
“Knowing now of both films I feel Possession is better considered a remake than an insulting sequel that not only adds nothing new but cannibalises its previous movie and uses Adrian Edmondson to do it. Despite whether it’s ethical or not, if you haven’t seen The Rizen (2017) and you find enjoyment watching cookie-cutter action horrors then there are certainly things to enjoy…” Horror DNA

“It’s far too quiet and there is a glaring issue with echoes when the actors are inside the base that made it come across as manufactured in a way that made it feel more like a distraction than an advancement of story. The Facility has a lot of potential in its premise. The ideas Mitchell sets out to tackle are interesting and unique, but the execution falls a little too flat to work for me.” Killer Horror Critic

” …the movie can feel like a jumble of ideas that, whilst not badly executed, together just feel like a jumble of ideas. The cohesion isn’t quite there, things don’t quite click. And that’s a shame, because The Rizen: Possession has promise, it just needs to remove the bandages so we can all see it.” OC Movie Reviews

” …there is something in the way that the past keeps infiltrating and haunting the present here that serves as a reflexive comment on the very nature of war mindsets as well as sequels, both doomed to repeat their respective histories – and the ending of Mitchell’s film certainly promises yet more (of the same) Lovecraftian dread to come.” Projected Figures

“It hints at plot threads and ideas that could have been far more interesting. Demons, mystical rituals, ghosts (maybe?) and a looming a threat to not just the Earth but other worlds as well. But instead, audiences are presented with flat acting, difficult to care about characters, a confusing ending and simply the worst use of lighting seen since season 8 of Game of Thrones.” Set the Tape

” …leaves a lot unexplained, most notably any details about the mysterious company involved with the site. The Facility is obviously meant to be the middle film of a trilogy so it isn’t showing all of its cards, or its creatures […] Fast-paced, creepy, and frequently bloody, The Facility is an enjoyable watch.” Voices from the Balcony

Release:
In the USA, The Facility will be released on DVD and Digital on December 8th 2020 by Uncork’d Entertainment.
