IMMORTAL (2019) Reviews and overview

‘Life changes when you can’t die’

Immortal is a 2019 American horror anthology feature film about characters that encounter death and survive.

Directed by Jon Dabach, Danny Isaacs, Tom Colley and Rob Margolies from a screenplay written by Jon Dabach, the movie stars genre icon Tony Todd (Final Destination films, Candyman and sequels), Dylan Baker (Elizabeth Harvest; Trick ‘r Treat; Fido), Samm Levine (Vamped Out TV series), Robin Bartlett, Agnes Bruckner, Vanessa Lengies, Brett Edwards and Lindsay Mushett.

Plot:

Thrown into the face of death only to emerge unharmed, the characters of Immortal are left staring at eternity in the face with uncertainty and fear like they’ve never imagined.

Chelsea, a high school track star comes clean about sexual misconduct with her coach only to find out her confession might be too late, Gary and Vanessa, a young, expecting married couple scheme a morbid solution to their financial issues, Ted, a man filled with sorrow agrees to euthanize his cancer-ridden wife Mary, and Warren, a young man with little direction in life is forced to discover his new gifts after a tragic accident.

Reviews [click links to read more]:

“Disjointed in quality, Immortal goes from pretty bad to simply amazing. Certainly worthy of a look, but since the story’s have no character continuity, you can just skip the “Warren” segment and get to the good stuff.” Horrorfreak News

“Allegory provides some sense of distance that this film rejects, but it also provides entertainment and escapism. This is more of a drama than anything else. Those looking for horror had better look elsewhere, but if you are interested in a more emotional and realistic approach to the anthology may want to check this out.” HorrorScreams VideoVault

Immortal lacks a wraparound story, the only connections between the segments is the concept of immortality and writer Dabach. The end result is that it feels like four separate shorts thrown together rather than a more traditional anthology. Also, since Immortal is both the film’s title and theme, the episodes come somewhat pre-spoiled in some cases.” Voices from the Balcony
