Mermaid Isle is a 2020 American horror film about a young woman who is bitten in a lake and turns into a monstrous creature.
Written and directed by Jason Mills (Clown Motel Vacancies; Alien Psychosis; Bigfoot Country; Alone We Are Not; They Came from the Attic), the Millspictures Studios production stars Samuel Buchanon, Kiana Passmore and Mark Reinhardt.
In 1983, a young woman was bitten by something horrific in a lake on a picturesque island. Her brother and father were both killed after she “turned” into a diseased mermaid. Her mother, Maureen Melhuish, was brought in for questioning and psychiatric evaluation as her story could not be real, or so they thought.
More than thirty years later, four young friends decide to go to a remote island, where “trespassing” is forbidden. One of the young friends, Toby, wants to propose to his girlfriend, Amy, in a romantic setting where the memory of the proposal would last a lifetime. Their friends, Shelly and Roy, joined the trip for support. Assuming the trip was going to be sappy and romantic, they did not expect their lives to be turned upside down.
Shelly falls into the lake where the young woman got bitten thirty-three years previously and history repeats itself. Frantic to save their friend, the group finds a little run-down shack. Unbeknownst to them, they run straight into…
” …the DVD front cover has more gore, more skin, and even a shark in the water. Low and behold, none of those enamours exists. I will say this about Mermaid Isle, the mermaid itself looks convincing, obscured enough around the seams and the physical fish tale to pull off an effective mermaid creature with pitch-black eyes and a face flush with hunger.” It’s Bloggin Evil!
Mermaid Isle is a micro-budget film shot in three days on the budget of only $500 and completed in only two months.
