‘They can run from the storm, but can they run from their deaths?’

Unsheltered is a 2022 American horror-thriller film about five college students that go missing when sheltering from a storm.

Directed by Marcus Small – making his feature directorial debut – from a screenplay co-written by Luis Canales and Marelize Roets. Produced by James Keitel, Ray Lloyd, Eric Miles, Murepha Small and Daniel Springen.

The movie stars starring Raven Wynn (Did I?), Ray Lloyd, Tanya Wheelock, Caleb Martin, Melina Kay, Michael A. Quill, Christian Rivera, Chauntel Hall, Josh May, Edgar Tomas Lopez, Jim Moore, Luke Drifter and Missy Miller.

Plot:
In 2017, five college students set out to escape the path of mother nature. When things took a turn, they had to seek shelter… and were never seen alive again.

Our view:
Unsheltered requires a lot of patience from viewers as we’re subjected to nearly an hour of fairly unlikeable characters, petty bickering, relationship drama and frustratingly dumb decisions before we finally get some actual slasher horror. And when we do, it’s hardly anything memorable.

Given that, and the fact that quite a bit of the buildup is shot found-footage style – presumably intended to add verisimilitude – this makes for a largely unrewarding experience. Meanwhile, the twist ending will prove either irksome or satisfying depending upon your willingness to suspend disbelief. At least it amps up the gruesomeness if nothing else.

Unsheltered gets minor plus points for decent cinematography and effective lighting, brief splattery shots and the creepy scrapyard setting with the hulks of old planes everywhere.

Other reviews:
” …some of the most shallow and bland characters put to screen. Those looking to take solace in there at the very least being a bonkers blood bath in the final 30 minutes will instead find 20 minutes of pathetic subpar kills that make the censored Jason movies look good and a bizarre ten-minute epilogue that is baffling.” 5/10 Horror Buzz

“Small does a solid job directing, to a degree knowing what makes for an involving horror, the main inspiration seeming to be the original Wolf Creek. The purposeful languid pacing does not work quite as well as it could have, here making the 90 minutes runtime seem longer […] That being said the cast are convincing with plausible chemistry that holds the attention throughout.” Mr Geeky

“Some decent gore, unique story, and cool twist ending did not make up for the weak acting, general pacing, and plot holes galore that plagued this film. It’s not a horrible film… it’s just not a great one. Despite the negatives, I would check out Unsheltered, if you have nothing else to watch…” Repulsive Reviews

” …it scores high in the suspense department, is suitably violent […] and it spends much time in building up its characters and giving them agendas, making their demises all the more palpable and shocking for the audience. Plus, the location alone, which is rather beautifully filmed and cleverly integrated into the story, is almost worth the price of admission alone.” Search My Trash
