The movie stars Chad Michael Collins (Dead Zone; High Moon), Ryan Robbins (Apollo 18; Scorched Earth), Sayaka Akimoto (Bikuu: the Movie; Ultraman Saga), Brendan Sexton III (Faceless; Don’t Breathe 2), Josh Brener (Baked in Brooklyn; Silicon Valley), Jocelyn Hudon (V for Vengeance; Safer at Home), Dennis Haysbert (Far from Heaven; The Unit), David MacInnis (Santa’s Slay; Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning), Paul Essiembre (Welcome to Sudden Death; Rescue Heroes) and Erik Athavale (Breakthrough; Steel).

Plot synopsis:
When a crooked federal agent is involved in a human sex trafficking ring, sniper and CIA Rookie Brandon Beckett goes rogue, teaming up with his former allies Homeland Security Agent Zero and assassin Lady Death to uncover the corrupt agent and take down the criminal organization…

Our view:
Some reviewers have failed to appreciate the obvious knowing humour in Sniper: Rogue Mission (to be fair, based on the previous serious movies this is perhaps fair enough). Oliver Thompson obviously decided to take a Guy Ritchie approach to the ageing franchise and the result is a fun and often hilarious action pastiche packed with silly action clichés and daft dialogue. On the downside, Thompson’s own score is mixed too high and often distracts. Otherwise, this is worth a watch if you take it as a tongue-in-cheek send-up.

Other reviews:
“I really enjoyed the direction that Sniper: Rogue Mission took… maybe it helped that I have not seen every single movie that came before it, but I was entertained and left wanting more. Sniper: Rogue Mission packs in plenty of pure action and the comedic elements added to the presentation and did not take away from it.” Bulletproof Action

“A scriptwriter of the previous Sniper: Assassin’s End. Oliver Thompson extended his participation to directing and composing the sequel and demonstrated he can handle everything. His narrating in screenplay and staging is intriguing, always unpredictable, touches reality, has a naturalness and I experienced moods in people and situations.” Lukaschik Gleb

“Although Assassin’s End had its moments of levity, it wasn’t an outright comedy; Sniper: Rogue Mission, however, is. Maybe Thompson took the mostly positive critical reception of his previous script as the freedom to go off the rails, or maybe this was just a massive misfire, either way, the jokiness of the movie doesn’t gel with its subject matter or fit in with prior installments.” 1 out of 5, Voices from the Balcony
