Reviews:
” …the over-reliance on dream sequences is lazy and poorly explained, with the feeling being that there were plenty of ideas but no real strategy on how to stitch them together. Considering the depth of detail in the visual world-building, we’re given frustratingly little information on what, well, the Victory project is about or wants to achieve.” BBC

“You’ll likely guess Victory’s dark secrets by the trailer alone; it’s that on the nose. While that predictability results in a mostly unsatisfying finale compounded by basic and too literal themes, Wilde at least succeeds in making the journey a sensory feast. Inventive designs and style bolster Pugh’s infectious charms…” Bloody Disgusting

” …Wilde tries to string together a movie that lives up to the “break free of the perfection” concept. But the audience is so far ahead of the characters in the movie, after 20 minutes we’re wondering when they’re going to figure out what’s going and when they do, it’s so lackluster and unsurprising it nearly ruins the rest of the film. Thankfully not entirely.” First Showing

” …things keep barrelling along thanks to both Pugh and the plot’s punchy critique of certain recent trends in the internet’s more testosterone-raddled dark corners. With a smudgy red-lipsticked grin, Don’t Worry Darling drags them out into the blazing desert light.” The Telegraph

Background:
Don’t Worry Darling was announced in August 2019, after a bidding war amongst eighteen studios to acquire the next Olivia Wilde-directed project; New Line Cinema later won the auction. The original spec script was written by the brothers Carey and Shane Van Dyke; the screenplay appeared on the 2019 Black List. Katie Silberman was brought on to do a rewrite which became the film’s screenplay.

Production:
It was reported that Shia LaBeouf had been fired by Olivia Wilde over his bad behaviour and frequent clashes with the cast and crew. However, he refuted this and claims he left the production of his own accord.
