Terror Train is a 2022 Canadian Tubi Original contemporary horror slasher reimagining of the 1980 film of the same name.

Directed by Philippe Gagnon (The Radio Talk Show Killer; Psycho Prom Queen; Twisted; Sleeper; Sometimes the Good Kill; Her Evil Twin; Willed to Kill) from a screenplay written by Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin (Slasher series).

The Incendo production stars Robyn Alomar, Mary Walsh, Nadine Bhabha, Matias Garrido, Corteon Moore, Emma Elle Paterson, Tori Barban, Dakota Jamal Wellman, Tim Rozon, Alexandre Bacon, Kenny Wong, Romy Weltman and Noah Parker.

A sequel, Terror Train 2, was released on Tubi on December 31, 2022.

Plot:
Eerie excitement is in the air as Alana (Robyn Alomar) and a group of college seniors board a party train for a Halloween-themed bash, but their fun spirals into fear as attendees are killed off one by one by an unknown killer.

Concealed by costumes and plagued with chaos, everyone is a suspect. As the party train continues full steam ahead, Alana must race against the rails to find the killer before she becomes the next victim…

Reviews:
“Some folks may not miss David Copperfield and the long dance numbers. I totally do. The original is silly in many ways but has some really frightening moments and unlike so many slashers, feels like it could happen. Yet I wonder: who is this for? Anyone who loves the first one is going to be irked before it even begins. Is a train relevant for today’s audience?” B&S About Movies

“There are no major surprises to be found other than the occasional plot tweak here and there, and anything that was changed doesn’t necessarily warrant an immediate watch, either. As underwhelming as this remake ends up being, the biggest crime is its lack of imagination. The new Terror Train neither changes course after the launch nor does it play around with the source material’s core ideas enough.” 2 stars out of 5, Bloody Disgusting

“Gagnon isn’t that refined a helmer, but he does add some punch to murder sequences, and the general concept of growing chaos in a tight setting is successfully revived. Terror Train won’t be surprising for those who’ve seen the 1980 effort, and maybe shock value is limited overall, with the premise drained of its more Hitchcockian touches and strange turns of plot. It’s not terribly exciting…” 2.5 stars out of 5, Blu-ray.com

Between Gagnon’s aesthetic eye, Carpenter’s and Martin’s smart dialog and a fully committed cast, it’s a pretty damn good movie. If the original film is your favorite slasher ever, well, maybe you’ll have some gripes, but otherwise this one’s solid. Give it a chance.” Daily Dead

“My concerns with the characters actually extend to the entire cast, all of whom are pretty bland. The banter between them is cringe-inducing. And while the screenplay bears some of the blame for that, the acting is also stilted. Almost all of these characters feel interchangeable and worse yet, they’re boring.” 1.5 stars out of 5, Dread Central

“While David Copperfield was more creepy in the original, Rozon is a way better actor and gives the magician some depth that wasn’t in the original film. I still prefer the original Terror Train due to its atmosphere and stronger performances. But the remake is worth watching if you’ve never bothered with the original, or if you’re just curious about this update.” Full Moon Reviews

“Robyn Alomar is a decent coed-in-distress and her bitterly hostile chemistry with Matias Garrido’s jerkweed Doc is pretty amusing to watch. Gagnon’s Terror Train is not ironic or self-referential in the Scream tradition, but it is energetic and admittedly campy, mostly in ways horror audiences can appreciate. Recommended for fans of the original and other throwback slashers…” J.B. Spins

“The movie’s sense of fun is what saves it. With a script by Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin, the team behind excellent series Slasher, we follow the typical tropes you would expect. However, they are executed in an entertaining and often subversive way. How can one not at least have the slightest bit of catharsis at watching awful people finally get their comeuppance?” Josh at the Movies

“It’s hard to figure out who this Terror Train was made for. Fans of the original will decry that it doesn’t do much that’s new and that none of it is done very well, while newbies will be left wondering what it was about this story that warranted revisiting in the first place.” Rue Morgue

Terror Train, like its namesake, is a surprisingly good time. There’s nothing that’s going to blow your skirt up, but for a by-the-numbers slasher on a Halloween party train, it’s a fine enough way to spend a fairly tight 90 minutes, especially around this time of year.” Signal Horizon

“While the film’s big twist is fairly obvious, it’s also the one time the film shakes off its lethargy and creates some excitement. If Gagnon could have delivered more scenes like these it would have been a much better film. As it is it’s watchable, especially on a streaming service where you’re not putting out a rental fee, but hardly essential viewing.” Voices from the Balcony

“The acting throughout I had no problems with […] Onto the deaths, we have a few good ones that will either have you laughing or squirming but nothing new and definitely no scenes or clips that will go viral. Terror Train is exactly as it sounds. One of those that’s worth a watch but will leave you wishing you hadn’t bothered.” Which Film
