Plot synopsis:
Self-proclaimed ethical hacker Mel Bandison’s (Holly Mae Brood) life is turned upside down when she stops a data breach on a high-tech self-driving bus that also happens to shut down an international criminal network.

She then becomes a target and is framed with a deep fake video that “shows” that she murders someone. She goes into hiding with an acquaintance she once met on a blind date and then does all it takes to prove her innocence despite the consequences…

Reviews:

“Everything in The Takeover is superficial, and there is hardly anything to take away from the film, but it holds fairly mediocre value if watched solely for mindless entertainment.” Digital Mafia Talkies

The Takeover is a very generic cyber-thriller that ends up evolving into a generic action film as well. The premise and the idea of it are pretty cool, but the movie never manages to explore that idea, and we are only left with an execution that feels very shallow in all aspects. This is a good movie to kill the time for 90 minutes, but once the credits roll, you will probably forget everything about it.” 6 out of 10, Fiction Horizon

“Mel’s genius is left unexplained. The irony sabotages the logical framework that this plot tries to hinge upon. The Takeover doesn’t so much make for a thrilling ride, but it is sure to keep your attention arrested. The plot is finely webbed…” High on Films

“While The Takeover is watchable, and it can certainly pass some time should you find yourself at a (very) loose end, it isn’t particularly exciting, nor is it something to seek out. The main problem with The Takeover is that this is a by-the-numbers thriller, which has been done many times before…” It’s a Stampede!

“The film is a lacklustre show throughout its short runtime and does not generate any excitement. It is another rendition from the genre, with no time for original innovation. All in all, The Takeover falls well behind the bar of an intriguing movie.” 1.5 out of 5, LeisureByte

“Despite it not being a highly sophisticated production it has the inherent entertainment value of an action thriller, which will probably be to the liking of some audience members. The storyline is not novel, but it counts on a strong protagonist.” Martin Cid Magazine

“Sadly, Mel is devoid of charms. You cannot blame Mae Brood because she does whatever she can with the role. But there is only so much the actress can do when the movie merely requires her to give worried and sad expressions. She mostly runs or hides from the bad guys or intently looks at computer screens while running her fingers on the keyboard.” 3 out of 10, Midgard Times

“The movie brings us a movie that feels a lot like a blend of Enemy of the States and Eagle Eye […] This is a tidy action thriller, but it doesn’t bring anything fresh to the table. If you are a fan of the genre, you will enjoy the movie. Just don’t expect anything groundbreakingly original.” 3 out of 5, Movie Reviews 101

“Holly Mae Brood was terrific as the brilliant hacker. She’s appeared in both Dutch language and English language film and TV series previously. The film was nonstop excitement and energy. I enjoyed every second of it.” Old Ain’t Dead

“It’s conventional from the start and failed to fully captivate and engage me as a viewer, but if you’re wanting an action-thriller that is less dramatic Hollywood showstopper material and more like real-life this could be the film for you.” 3 out of 5, Ready Steady Cut

“Even though I enjoyed this film, it followed its safe formula and stuck with it. It reminded me a lot of The Net starring Sandra Bullock and didn’t stray too far from that familiar plot. I would have liked for it to have found its own identity separate from that film, but it was still a lot of fun to watch.” TV Fanatic Girl
