‘Once you hear the hum, it’s already too late.’
Resonance is a 2018 Dutch horror film about a young couple who discover strange noises originating from deep within the woods.
Written and directed by Siar Sedig, making his feature debut, the We Can Do It Productions movie stars Max Croes and Nastassia Firestone.
Plot:
A young couple, Max (Max Croes) and Elena (Nastassia Firestone), who go on a little field trip together stumble upon strange noises resonating from deep within the woods. These resonating sounds have besides negative psychological effects, also severe physical effects on them both.
When Elena starts bleeding internally she is in desperate need of a doctor. With the noise blocking all electronic signals Max realizes there’s no way out but to go straight through the woods in search of help, but something doesn’t want them to leave…
Reviews:
“The director and screenwriter Siar Sedig in his first full-length feature doesn’t allow the budget to be a limitation to exhibit his talent and that of his cast and crew and ends up with a product that leaves the question of what could have been done with a greater budget. Although far from being flawless, it is an excellent movie for those that enjoy independent horror and thriller movies.” 7 out of 10, 10th Circle
“Resonance is a film that is technically well put together, especially considering the budget. The cast also did very well. The story was a little less clear, but that could also be due to the fact that I personally prefer a “tangible” monster. The cast and crew do have talent though, so I’m definitely looking forward to their future projects!” Entertainment Hoek [translated from Dutch]
“While the potential for a noise to create the terror is definitely there, and this all feels constantly on the cusp of being interesting, it never gets anywhere. It doesn’t have to explain the sound – in fact there’s nothing duller than learning all about the mystery – but it does need to make the journey worth sticking with.” 2.5 out of 5, Horror DNA
“The idea behind this movie was so simple, and it works surprisingly well. The strange noise the couple hear that causes them all sorts of problems appears to be incorporated into the film’s soundtrack. On a few occasions the droning noise worked both as an accompaniment to what was going on visually, the hum giving a feeling of something not quite right, but then is also acknowledged by the characters.” The Rotting Zombie
