Scream VI is a 2023 American slasher horror film and obviously, the fifth sequel in the successful franchise. The movie takes place in New York City.
The Radio Silence team’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have returned to direct the slasher sequel with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick back on board having written the screenplay.
Previously, we reported that the movie’s cast expanded with the announcement that Samara Weaving (Ready or Not; The Babysitter; Mayhem; Ash vs Evil Dead) and Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: Homecoming and No Way Home‘) had joined the cast. Prior to that, it was confirmed that Jack Champion, Liana Liberato (The Beach House), Devyn Nekoda (Ghostwriter) and Josh Segarra (Arrow) had also joined the cast.
The four surviving stars of Scream (2022) – namely Melissa Barrera (Sam), Mason Gooding (Chad), Jenna Ortega (Tara) and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy) – are returning and will be joined by fan favourite Hayden Panettiere, who was so memorable as Kirby Reed in Scream 4. Dermot Mulroney (Umma) is also in the sequel cast.
We also previously reported that Scream VI won’t feature Neve Campbell as heroine Sidney Prescott. The slasher star confirmed in an official statement to Deadline that: “Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film.”
The actress continued: “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past twenty-five years.”
Clearly, we do not know the offer that Campbell was made but given that Scream (2022) took $140,041,405 theatrically worldwide (according to Box Office Mojo) on a reported budget of $24 million, even before home media residuals, too many outsiders it may seem short-sighted of the producers to quibble about her salary. Or maybe she expected a ridiculously exorbitant fee? Yet, how much could that really be when measured against the next movie’s potential profits? We will probably never know.
Prior to the Neve Campbell furore, Courteney Cox had already intimated that she’d be back as Gale Weathers.
Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2022 and the Paramount Pictures-Spyglass Media movie will be released theatrically on March 31, 2023.
The third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, is executive producing alongside Scream creator Kevin Williamson and production company Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.

All I'll say for now is that you'd better secure your #ScreamVI opening weekend tickets now. I LOVED it and I'm still riding the high. Intense, thrilling, heartfelt, smart. I'm a happy, happy gal.
