‘An animal rumoured to exist but never proven’
Cryptid is a 2022 American creature feature monster movie about a mysterious animal that rips a local resident apart. Deemed to be a random bear attack by town officials, freelance journalist Max Frome (Nicholas Baroudi) suspects it might be something more. Also known as Prehistoric Predator

The BarBHouse-221 Films co-production stars Nicholas Baroudi, Ellen Adair, Chopper Bernet, Kevin O’Rourke, Eric Gilde, Kate MacCluggage, Emme Burchardt, Jeanine Bartel, Paul Weissman, Sarah Feldman, Amy Fiebke, Chris Keating, Jim Malloy, Arthur T. Neiman III, Vivian Nesbitt, Gerard J. Savoy and Linda Thorburn.

Reviews:
” …any movie that has a lizard man that walks on two legs and eats humans — and animals — before hibernating instead of going with something easy like Bigfoot wins my heart. It’s a little talky in places and could be trimmed somewhat, but for a low-budget shot in Massachusetts horror movie, it’s pretty darn good. These guys are going for a 70s or 80s monster movie and that makes me super happy.” B&S About Movies

“The story is there and, possibly a franchise but Rego could use a very smart, trusted editor either at the writing stage or in the editing room. Despite a few faults, Cryptid was a well-crafted movie that served horror, drama, and creature all on the same plate. It could have been tightened up a bit but folks, keep your eye on Rego.” Horror Buzz

“The chemistry between Baroudi and Adair is super, with their characters having a “Will they or won’t they?” relationship that adds to the drama. Cryptid follows some monster movie tropes but solid direction and engaging performances keep it consistently entertaining and highly watchable. ” Horror Fuel

” …the holes they keep finding in the ground where the creature comes and goes from are the size of a rabbit, while the upright lizard they show is about 6 feet tall (yes, the thing stands upright.) The whole thing is a shiny creature feature from the 50s. Without any suspense and no kills to speak of.” 3.8 out of 10, Jackmeats Flix

“The final battle with the cryptid does eventually come, but it’s obscured by funky lighting and dark cryptid caverns. It’s obvious that the cryptid is a staid bit of practical effects, but it’s effective, endearing, and pretty dam freaky. While Cryptid suffers from some minor issues, the end product is a good one that’s filled with pretty solid performances and some decent practical effects.” 3 out of 5 stars, The Scariest Things

“The film’s best asset is its gradually revealed monster. The script builds up to a coveted third act, with the promise that it will scare. Cryptid sometimes feels like found footage and sometimes like a creepypasta. We spend most of our time in dimmed environments and that’s a little daunting.” Tales of Terror

“The reveal of just what the cryptid is will probably be a bit divisive depending on how believable you like your creatures. Personally, I was quite happy with what it turned out to be […] Cryptid is, when all is said and done, an above-average creature feature that was just a good edit away from reaching its full potential.” 3.5 out of 5 stars, Voices from the Balcony
