Reviews:
“The heavy use of cliches may turn some viewers off. However, The Mistress is well-shot, and the acting is strong. The ending, though, so brilliantly upends and alters perceptions that it elevates the production into must-see territory.” 9 out of 10, Film Threat

” …The Mistress is too long. A clever idea needs to be fleshed out with similarly compelling characters. Considering the film lacks the latter, the story feels underdeveloped and tedious, even if the ideas are intriguing. There’s also a late-game twist or two that come across as rushed and clumsily implemented.” 2 out of 5, Flickering Myth

“John Magaro also does a pretty good Jack Torrance-style slide into madness, or whatever. While Chasten Harmon is totally professional, the character of Madeline is frustratingly underwritten and incredibly unintuitive […] As a horror film, The Mistress is okay, but not great. There isn’t much more to it than that.” J.B. Spins

” …it’s kind of silly, to say the least, and intentionally confounding, especially as Parker’s manner leaps from deep concern for his safety, to being so calm in the mysterious woman’s presence, and, finally, to becoming an accomplice in a severe crime committed by the stranger/ghost. Nothing, obviously, is at it seems in The Mistress, because what it seems like is an utterly unconvincing premise for a thriller…” 1.5 out of 4, Mark Reviews Movies

“Thrillers like this get by on their jolts — which here are modest — and their clues and how easy or tricky they are to figure out. Those are…pretty obvious […] There’s a bit of suspense, especially in the bang-up finale. And if the plot’s unraveling isn’t all it needed to be, that’s how we wind up with “servicable.” 2 out of 4, Movie Nation

“The late introduction of the plot twist appears more impromptu than planned, leaving the audience’s experience shortchanged. The Mistress winds down as the resonances of the past collide with the present, posing a threat to the stability of Maddie and Parker’s relationship. Thus, despite its captivating premise, The Mistress only partially meets its full potential, prompting audiences to ponder the paths yet to be taken.” 2.5 out of 5, Overly Honest Movie Reviews

The Mistress is not a perfect film, but it’s a nice proof of concept for Pritikin. Whether he was hindered by budget or some other aspect, the performances make The Mistress worth a watch. With some excellent homages to yesteryear and the master of suspense, The Mistress almost lives up to its most ambitious moments but struggles to land the plane.” 6 out of 10, Sunshine State Cineplex
