Everyone Will Burn is a 2021 Spanish horror film about a strange little girl who has psychic powers that can cause injuries and death.

Directed by David Hebrero from a screenplay co-written with Javier Kiran.

The movie stars Macarena Gómez, Sofía García, Fernando Cayo, Guillermo Estrella, Saturnino García, Edu Hernandez, Ella Kweku, Ana Milán, Rubén Ochandiano, Rodolfo Sancho and Germán Torres.

Plot:
In a small village in Leon, Spain, María José (Macarena Gomez) prepares to end her life after failing to get over the suicide of her bullied son years before.

Everything changes when she receives a visit from Lucía, a strange little girl who could be connected to a local legend about stopping an impending apocalypse. With the enigmatic girl by her side, María José faces the corrupt community, overloaded with sadistic secrets and immoral lies…

Reviews:
“A sample of rural terror that, directed by David Hebrero, has the weapons to keep interest at an acceptable level as long as you are willing to suspend disbelief and accept its crazy premises and tremendous narrative excesses.” Cintilatio [translated from Spanish]

“It’s a riff on The Omen where Damien is in the right, but the focus of the film is on Gómez […] as a character who might have come out of an Almodovar movie … a put-upon divorcée who alone has shouldered the burdens of grief and guilt, but also a style icon and a potential furious avenger.  It takes its time to illustrate the Peyton Place-style shortcomings of everyone in town and to tease out the backstory, then builds to a satisfying apocalypse…” The Kim Newman Web Site

“If, at the beginning of Everyone Will Burn, María José is an ex-mother seeking death, by the end she will – following a descent that is as much mental and moral as physical – become a mother again, resurrected by the idea of birth. Between these two poles of birth and death is life itself, full of petty power plays, errant appetites, cruelty, grievance and despair…” Projected Figures

“Perhaps it is in one of the deepest moments as far as the drama is concerned, where we do not end up feeling completely comfortable, because due to the line and air of the events as they have been happening, the body asks you for chaos and fun, even for its main character.” Terror Weekend [translated from Spanish]

“Apart from the pacing, the only real issue I had with Everyone Will Burn was the weird subtitles that were shot through with what looked like HTML tags. It didn’t get in the way of reading them but it was distracting. Overall it’s an effective film with some genuinely creepy moments.” 4/5, Voices from the Balcony
