Reviews:
” …an utterly fantastic sci-fi action extravaganza that you need on your radar. It just does everything right, providing you with a solid 2 hours of pure entertainment. Director Choi Dong-hoon got everything right this time around and once more proves why he is one of the most successful modern filmmakers working in South Korea.” Blood Brothers
“The world created by Choi and Ki-cheol remains vibrant and exciting, while maintaining a sense that it’s not just danger that lurks in the shadows but heroes ready to shine a light and defend those who need it. As a result, Choi absolutely sticks the landing, offering a conclusion that feels earned from the time spent. More than that, it leaves us wanting more from these characters…” 4 out of 5, Elements of Madness
“Alienoid is still head-and-shoulders better than the last dozen or so Marvel and DC movies, but it loses some of the special chemistry of the first film. Nevertheless, it is impressive to watch Choi pull off so much galactic-scale lunacy. Recommended for fans of the first film, but not as a stand-alone…” J.B. Spins
“Impressive performances, even more impressive visual effects, and a good dose of humour make Alienoid: Return to the Futurethe ending this story needed. It’s a film from a director willing to be a little bit bonkers, and exactly the kind of fun one might expect from a historical epic come action adventure come extra-terrestrial sci fi.” Loud and Clear
“Some blockbusters know how to balance story with strong visuals, but Alienoid: Return to the Future doesn’t quite achieve that crucial balance. It also overstays its welcome with a slightly overlong running time. At 2 hour and 2 minutes, it’s mildly entertaining and visually dazzling, but often convoluted, uninspired and over-produced.” The NYC Movie Guru
“In case of the action sequences in the movie, they look relatively more expensive than the ones in the previous film, but they are merely drenched in lots of digital special effects without any substantial dramatic effect, and, above all, they seriously lack style, personality, and imagination […] those alien villains and several other alien stuffs in the film are mediocre at best and uninspired at worst without much artistic qualities…” Seongyong’s Private Place
“There seems to be no use trying to make up for an ungainly tale with epic computer graphics and spectacular visual effects. Venom-like tentacled aliens lack creativity, given an abundance of television series featuring alien creatures in recent years in the South Korean entertainment industry. Slapstick comedy and one-liners, which are meant to lighten up the mood, are distracting at best, let alone failing, mostly, to prompt a burst of laughter from the audience.” Yonhap News Agency
