Badland Hunters is a 2024 Korean sci-fi action horror film in which Seoul is transformed into an apocalyptic wasteland after a major earthquake. The survivors in this new dystopian world are led by a tough hunter (Don Lee) who fights for survival and salvation.
Directed by Heo Myeong Haeng from a screenplay co-written by Kim Bo-Tong and Kwak Jae-Min. Produced by Seung-min Byun.
The movie stars Don Lee [Ma Dong-seok] (The Roundup: No Way Out; The Roundup; Eternals; The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil, Train to Busan), Lee Joon-young, No Jeong-ee, Jun Hee Lee, Kim Young-sun and Ahn Ji-hye.
“The effects are a mix of practical and mostly good CGI. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for much of the CGI used to show the remains of Seoul, it frequently looks like a 70s or 80s vintage matte painting. The best scenes though, as with most of his films, are the scenes where Ma Dong-seok is set loose to wreak havoc on everyone and anyone in his way.” 4 out of 5, Voices from the Balcony
“Much of the positive aspects of the film lie in the scenes in the apartment compound, which we don’t come upon until the second half of the film. If you can survive the character annoyances, bland story elements, painful dialogue, & pointless gang encounters of the first half, then you will be rewarded – in a very loose sense – with the well choreographed, close-quarters fight sequences that you probably came for in the first place.” What’s on Netflix
