
Monkey Man is a 2024 action thriller film in which an anonymous young man unleashes a campaign of vengeance against corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systemically victimise the poor and powerless.
Directed and co-produced by and starring Dev Patel, making his feature directorial debut, from a screenplay co-written with Paul Angunawela and John Collee from a story by Patel. The concept is loosely based on the deity of Hanuman in Hinduism. Also produced by Jomon Thomas, Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christine Haebler and Anjay Nagpal. The executive producers are Jonathan Fuhrman, Natalya Pavchinskya, Aaron L. Gilbert, Andria Spring, Alison-Jane Roney and Steven Thibault.

The international Bron Studios-Thunder Road-Monkeypaw-Minor Realm/S’Ya Concept-WME Independent-Creative Wealth Media co-production also stars Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte and Makarand Deshpande.

Production:
On March 12, 2021, it was announced that filming was completed and Netflix had bought worldwide rights to the film, described as “John Wick in Mumbai.” However, Jordan Peele saw the film and, feeling that it deserved a theatrical release instead, later acquired it under his Monkeypaw Productions banner, which has a distribution deal with Universal Pictures.
The film features fight choreography by Brahim Chab, an action actor and choreographer who has worked with Jackie Chan on the films Dragon Blade and Vanguard, Scott Adkins on Ninja: Shadow of a Tear, Boyka: Undisputed and Abduction, Donnie Yen on Big Brother, Jean-Claude Van Damme on Frenchy and Pound of Flesh, and most recently Nicholas Tse on Customs Frontline.

Release:
In the US, Monkey Man was released theatrically on April 5, 2024, by Universal Pictures. A VOD release followed on April 23, 2024.
