Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a 2024 American sci-fi action film that follows the events in War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) when many ape clans have emerged in the oasis to which Caesar led his fellow apes, while humans have regressed into a feral state. One ape leader prevents the teachings of Caesar from enslaving other clans in search of the last traces of secret human technology, while another ape embarks on a journey to find freedom alongside a human girl.

As mentioned, the movie is a sequel to War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) and the fourth instalment in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise.

Directed by Wes Ball from a screenplay written by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison. Produced by Joe Hartwick Jr, Jaffa, Silver and Jason Reed.

The Disney Studios Australia-Twentieth Century Fox co-production stars Owen Teague as Cornelius, the chimpanzee son of Caesar, plus Freya Allan, Peter Macon, Eka Darville, Kevin Durand, William H. Macy, Sara Wiseman, Dichen Lachman, Peter Macon, Neil Sandilands, Eka Darville, Lydia Peckham, Travis Jeffery and Ras-Samuel Welda’abzgi.

Background:
Development on a new Planet of the Apes movie began in April 2019, following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, with Wes Ball attached as writer and director that December. Casting commenced in June 2022, following the script’s completion. Teague was cast in the lead role that August, with the film’s title and additional casting revealed in the following months. Principal photography began in October 2022 in Sydney and wrapped in February 2023.

Release:
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled to be released by 20th Century Studios in the US on May 24, 2024.
