‘Smoking kills’
Ribspreader is a 2022 comedy horror film about a former tobacco advertising icon who transforms into a killer who stalks smokers.
The movie was written and directed by Dick Dale (not the American guitarist) as a labour of love over ten years.
The Australian Trasharama production stars Tommy Darwin, Marni Russo, Neil Foley, Tess O’Flaherty, Chloe Mortem, Tammi Mortem, Ben Gel, Chantal Contouri (Thirst, 1979), Chris Cashel, Rory Cawley, Saxon Cordeaux, Leigh Crawford, Max Duxgutz, Peter Evangelista, Zaen Ghast, Scott Harrison, Tim Hawkins, Erica Hoy, Hermann Lauss, Wayne Mattei, Jesse McKiernan, Lyle Mensworth and Chad Morgan.
There are cameo appearances by the likes of Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman, Nick Oliveri (bassist in Mondo Generator and Queens of the Stone Age bands), Laurence R. Harvey (The Human Centipede 2) and Rat Scabies (drummer in the punk-Goth-psychedelic band The Damned).
Plot:
Decades after his career as a tobacco advertising icon, Bryan Burns’ (Tommy Darwin) life is in ruins. After his mother dies of lung cancer, he is tormented by a talking cigarette on an anti-smoking billboard. He snaps and transforms into the Ribspreader, a killer stalking the city, extinguishing smokers and cutting out their lungs to make his macabre smoking jacket…
