The Ritual is a forthcoming horror film about two very different priests who must put aside their differences to save a troubled woman via a dangerous series of exorcisms.
The movie is being directed by David Midell from a screenplay co-written with Enrico Natale.
Plot:
Two priests — one questioning his faith (Dan Stevens) and one dealing with a troubled past (Al Pacino) — have to put aside their theological differences to save a possessed young woman via a difficult and dangerous series of exorcisms.
The film is a portrayal of Emma Schmidt, an American woman whose alleged demonic possession culminated in Catholic priests subjecting her to harrowing exorcisms to cure her of demonic possession. Her sad story of mental trauma is the most thoroughly documented case of supposed exorcism in American history.
Release:
XYZ Films will release The Ritual theatrically in the US in 2025.
