Dark Match is a 2024 horror film about wrestlers hired by a strange backwoods cult who make them fight for their lives.
The movie was written and directed by Lowell Dean (Die Alone; SuperGrid; Another WolfCop; WolfCop; 13 Eerie).
The Dept. 9 Studios production stars Ayisha Issa (Transplant), Steven Ogg (Grand Theft Auto V, The Walking Dead), Sara Canning, Michael Eklund and wrestling star Chris Jericho (Terrifier 2).
Plot:
In the 1980s, a small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying but too-good-to-be-true gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader… and their event is now a pay-per-view fight to the death.
Lowell Dean recently told Bloody Disgusting: “When I wrote Dark Match I questioned if it was too crazy to get made, but within months I was on set in Edmonton, with a hard-working cast and crew all pouring their (fake) blood and sweat in the wrestling ring to bring it to life.”
