‘Some family secrets are best left dead and buried’
Wineville is a 2024 horror thriller in which a woman who escaped her abusive father as a teen must return to settle family affairs at their vineyard. Unfortunately, she discovers that the dark secrets she left behind have only festered and blackened over the decades, fermenting into violence and death.
Directed, co-produced by and starring former model and actress Brande Roderick (Baywatch TV series) – making her feature directorial debut – from a screenplay by Richard Schenkman (Mischief Night; Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies; The Man from Earth), who also produced alongside Robin DeMartino and Todd Slater.
The Convoke Media-She-Ra Productions movie also stars Carolyn Hennesy (Dawson’s Creek), Texas Battle (Final Destination 3), Casey King (The Secret Life of Amy Bensen) and Keaton Roderick Cadrez (Ace and the Christmas Miracle).

Director Brande Roderick told The Hollywood Reporter, “Wineville was influenced by ’70s horror classics like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Last House on the Left, as I wanted my first feature to be not only in the horror genre that I loved so much growing up but to also pay homage to the flavour and style of that decade’s films that made such an impact on me.“
Reviews:
“Wineville comes across as both cheaply made and lacking in inspiration, with little to offer beyond a disjointed narrative and clumsy execution. While Brande Roderick’s ambition is evident, her transition from the beach to director chair falls flat, suggesting she might be better suited to posing nude and dating athletes. The final product ultimately misses the mark.” CineDump
“The conclusion of Wineville is a powerful meditation on the enduring impact of trauma and the complex, often painful journey toward healing. It leaves viewers with lingering questions about the feasibility of ever truly escaping the shadows cast by our pasts. Roderick’s approach results in a film that is as much a past reflection as a modern psychological exploration. Wineville stands out for its narrative and visual storytelling.” Overly Honest Reviews
“A pretty cool horror mystery with Southern gothic undercurrents that, despite giving away quite a bit literally in the first scene, profits from a nice build-up that might be on the slow burn side but that way also creates tremendous tension. And of course, a very elegant, atmosphere-heavy directorial effort that makes the best use of its location only helps in that respect.” Search My Trash
