‘There is no cure’
The Demon Disorder is a 2024 horror film about an unearthed family secret that leads to revenge from beyond the grave.

The supernatural-themed movie was directed and co-produced by special effects expert Steven Boyle (Fear Below; The Matrix Revolutions; The Possessed; Boar; The Pack; Daybreakers) – making his feature directorial debut – from a screenplay co-written with Toby Osborne. Co-produced by Kyle Lema and Ally Muller. Executive produced by Mike Gray, Ari Harrison, Jip Panosot, Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig (Winchester; Predestination; Jigsaw; Daybreakers; Undead).

The Formation Pictures production stars John Noble, Liam Wallace, Charles Cottier, Amy Ingram, Dirk Hunter, Tobie Websters, Christian Willis and Michael Tuahine.

Plot:
Graham Reilly (John Noble) is a man haunted by his past since his father’s death and his two brothers’ estrangement. Jake (Dirk Hunter), his middle brother contacts Graham, claiming something is wrong. Phillip (Charles Cottier), their younger brother is possessed by their deceased father. Graham reluctantly agrees to go and see for himself.

With the three brothers back together, they soon realise they are unprepared for the forces against them. With Graham forced to accept that their younger brother is indeed possessed, they soon learn that the sins of their past will not stay hidden. But how do you defeat a presence that knows you inside and out? An anger so powerful it refuses to stay dead? A rage that wants revenge on the sons that murdered him…

Background:
Writer-director Steven Boyle has commented: “[The movie] combines elements of early David Cronenberg and body horror crafted through elaborate visual effects sequences. Audiences can expect something fresh. It’s disturbing, it’s humorous, and I promise it will have people talking about what they’ve just witnessed long after it finishes.”

Reviews:
” …ends with a grotesque mix of the demonic and body horror straight out of one of David Cronenberg’s early films. Yes, the film overall suffers from some common problems with debut features, such as the cliché relationship between the brothers but it manages to redeem itself once it switches over to a full-on horror film. The small but talented cast enthusiastically throws themselves into the gooey goings on…” ★★★ Voices from the Balcony

“Even though The Demon Disorder comes close to stalling in its early stages, the patient build-up pays off in the end, delivering a solid feature, a notable monster, and a good sense of humor. At 85 minutes long, it frontloads its plot development enough that it frees itself to let loose in the end, which is what most audiences will remember when the credits roll.” What Sleeps Beneath

” …for a movie that starts off kinda slow and generic, it really does turn into a solid watching experience. The last thirty minutes or so are really wild and fun. The acting, by its limited cast, is excellent, with character and dramatic interactions that ultimately do payoff. It also has solid and gooey/ gross practical FX.” Words from the Master
