The Blinding Edge Pictures-K Period Media co-production stars Dylan O’Brien, Eliza Scanlen, Diana Hopper, Caroline Falk, Sam Hennings, Eric Lange and Lauren Ambrose.

The two filmmakers were inspired to make the film when they came across a photograph of the real Caddo Lake online. This led to many visits to the cypress forest on the border of Texas and Louisiana.

Reviews:
Caddo Lake devotes itself to its one underexplored idea, which is obscure not because it’s a complex or thoroughly considered idea, but because the filmmaking conveying it is unclear and the storytelling incorporating it is bare. Without cleverness or clarity, the plot’s only option for getting to the finish line is over-explanation.” Grade: C- AV Club

“Viewer interest in the feature will probably depend on willingness to go along on the dark adventure, with the endeavor more interesting with introductions than answers. Still, Caddo Lake has appealing performances and fine tech credits (scoring from David Baloche maintains a creeping mood) but it’s a film that becomes a maze, getting away from emotional business for some genre-style gamesmanship that’s not as absorbing.” ★★★ Blu-ray.com

“This is the kind of movie which demands your attention because it’s easy to get lost, given its labyrinthine storytelling that alternates back and forth between Paris’ and Ellie’s stories. No doubt the movie can’t escape the convoluted structure which baffles me with lots of questions, particularly the enigma surrounding the setting of Caddo Lake itself.” ★★★½ Casey’s Movie Mania

“There is a twist in the film, but unfortunately not at the level of other Shyamalan levels of reveals. It doesn’t take too long to get to the moment where it’s unveiled, but I found it to be slightly underwhelming and partially obvious by the time it rolled around […] Caddo Lake is an impressive feat of nature, and filming on location was a wonderful decision that pays off in many shots and ways.” Cosmic Circus

Caddo Lake is a bizarro window into the strange worldview of its creators. An unexpected level of emotionality also elevates the movie from becoming a lesser-quality Lost clone. The established lore ends up fitting together like the perfect pieces of a puzzle. O’Brien fans should definitely check it out, as he has a very big role.” ★★★★ Josh at the Movies

“So, is Caddo Lake worth your time? If you’re into slow-burn mysteries with a dash of folklore and a lot of “what just happened” moments, then absolutely. But if you’re looking for a clean, straightforward narrative, you might want to skip this one. The movie takes risks, and while not all of them pay off, it’s refreshing to see a thriller that doesn’t rely on cheap scares.” ★★★½ The Movie Blog

“There are a number of blink-and-you-miss-it plot reveals about developments tied to young Anna’s disappearance, so put those phones down as you tune in. And even if the A-story is more or less wrapped up by the end, the uniquely mysterious little world that was created with Caddo Lake begs for more exploration.” ★★★½ MovieWeb

” …O’Brien and Scanlen deliver decent performances despite the film’s many strange detours. At times, it feels as if “Caddo Lake” abandons any pretense of explanation, hoping instead that audiences will become lost in the experience. If the characters were more fully developed and their relationships more fleshed out, this approach might have worked.” Grade: C The Only Critic

“The jumpy narrative keeps you always back-footed as to what is going on, and I worry that viewers might give up in the first hour which can be a bit slow. I’m not an advocate for holding the audience’s hand or anything, but the film needed some kind of streamlined storytelling device. That said, once the puzzle pieces start to come together, they do so vigorously and in a way that’s satisfying, leaving ripples in the memory that will last after the credits have rolled.” ★★★½ Punch Drunk Critics

“Despite having interesting ideas present to better develop its mystery, Caddo Lake falls flat due to its underdeveloped characters and a story that grows less engaging the longer it drags on. While stellar performances balance out its disappointing attributes, they’re not enough to save the movie from being a dull, sometimes plodding story about a mysterious disappearance.” 4/10 Screen Rant
